Mr. A.M. Haidermota, Founding Partner

Our fountainhead, long-standing Managing Partner, and a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, A.M. Haidermota was one of the most esteemed legal practitioners in the country. Upon the 1971 partition of Bangladesh from Pakistan, Mr. Haidermota migrated from Dhaka to Karachi and established Haidermota and Company (HMCO). In the years that followed, Mr. Haidermota, armed with his exceptional legal acumen and absolute dedication, took HMCO from strength to strength. With a view to realize his father’s vision of elevating HMCO to Pakistan’s top law firm, Mr. Haidermota’s son, Khozem Haidermota, joined the firm in 1992 and extensively contributed to the growth of the firm’s corporate practice. Before long, HMCO became and remains today one of the premier law firms in Pakistan.
The principles and core values of the firm emanate from Mr. Haidermota, who laid its foundation with a cardinal commitment to “clients’ interests first.” Every lawyer that is, or has been, a member of our team has imbibed Mr. Haidermota’s formula of pairing an in-depth knowledge of the law with a solution-oriented approach, to produce optimal results.
HMCO’s first transformation from a family operated practice into a robust international institution took place under Mr. Haidermota’s leadership and guidance in 2010, when the firm extended its presence to Dubai upon the creation of Anjarwala, Collins and Haidermota (AC&H). Led by the indefatigable, accomplished and erudite Atiq Anjarwala, AC&H is already among the most prestigious firms in Dubai’s ultra-competitive legal market.
Born in the Dawoodi Bohra community, Mr. Haidermota was deeply motivated by the teachings of his religious leaders, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (T.U.S.), the late Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin (R.A.), and the late Syedna Taher Saifuddin Saheb (R.A.). He sincerely believed in giving back to society, and was thus widely respected within the community for his services to Dawat-e-Hadiyah. In addition to that, Mr. Haidermota’s active participation in various other charitable and social causes was appreciated in wider circles.
True to form, the relentless Mr. Haidermota came to work until his final days. He was an inspiration to all. He was an exceptional leader and a phenomenal teacher. He not only taught law to his partners and associates; he guided them in ethics and principles. For him, Law was not just a profession; it was about trust and honesty and obtaining justice in society.
The passing of Mr. Haidermota’s wife, Mrs. Fatima Haidermota, in 2015, was a grave personal tragedy, taking a serious toll on him and his health. Mr. Haidermota passed on July 1, 2016.
Our firm is saddened and bereft at his passing yet Mr. Haidermota was and and will remain the anchor of this firm.
